Singapore’s NomVNom serves up vegan pizzas and burgers, the Czech Republic enjoys vegan hot dogs and ribs from Forky’s, and London recently saw the opening of its first completely vegan fish and chip shop, Sutton’s and Sons’.

Found in the Casba building in Sydney’s bustling Waterloo, the vegan Paperbark restaurant specializes in creating dishes from native Australian ingredients such as wattleseeds and pepperberries. Launched in 2018, the fusion menu boasts innovative dishes such as lemon myrtle and eggplant bruschetta. The lavish establishment also offers a fully Australian wine list, stocked with minimum-intervention wines, including a manon pinot noir which complements the earthiness of the Paperbark mushrooms.

Named after its founder, Chef Antonio Chiodi Latini, this restaurant places a high emphasis on sourcing its ingredients locally. This not only guarantees freshness but also lessens the carbon footprint of the menu, with less transportation, refrigeration, preservatives, and packaging needed.

Brussels-based Humus x Hortense was recently named the best vegan restaurant in the world. The title comes via the “We’re The Smart Taste Summit” in Amsterdam. It beat out 800 competitors. Everything served at the restaurant — lead by Flemish chef Nicolas Decloedt — is seasonal, local, and organic, according to the Brussels Times. All wines on offer are also local and natural.

Acorn in Bath specializes in sustainable, plant-based fine dining. The award-winning restaurant uses locally-sourced ingredients that are good for the environment and for the animals, too. It states on its website,“that way you don’t have to worry about the horrors of industrial agriculture.” Its December menu features innovative vegan dishes like baked celeriac terrine and carrot and hazelnut pate.

Browns Bonds Hill in Derry/Londonderry isn’t an exclusively vegan restaurant, but it was the only establishment in Northern Ireland to make it on to animal rights organization PETA’s top 10 list of vegan-friendly fine-dining restaurants in the UK.
