The vents system

Our system offers you maximum ventilation area and full variability. The vents can be lined up directly in any number without the need for fixed panels in between. Nevertheless, they are integrated in a way that they do not require a clamping frame, i.e. they provide the full ventilation and light area of the supporting profile system. This also benefits the uniform appearance: opening vents and fixed panels look the same and form a harmonious overall picture. Even the drives do not disturb this image. They allow an effective opening width of 250 mm and are concealed in the profile system. In this combination, the vents system represents an absolute glass roof innovation.

Interior roller blinds

Optionally, our Modular Glass Skylight MS78 can be equipped with an interior roller blind for optimum privacy, sun and glare protection. Our roller blind system for the LAMILUX Modular Glass Skylight MS78 has a filigree and aesthetically appealing design and blends seamlessly into the overall appearance of the glass roof. The sun protection for the Modular Glass Skylight MS78 runs on thin wires and therefore hardly takes up any light area when open. Our interior roller blinds offer a number of advantages when it comes to shading your buildings. Installing a roller blind reduces solar radiation and reduces heat build-up in the interior. At the same time, glare that can be caused by direct sunlight is avoided.

Proven energy efficiency

Structural attachment

Our LAMILUX Modular Glass Skylight MS78 can be installed directly onto load-bearing surfaces such as concrete, wood and steel without additional profiles thanks to innovative load converters. Thanks to the special design of our glass roof, no additional profile is required to create a stable and secure connection and compensate for tolerances in the surface. This saves time and costs during installation and makes it more flexible in terms of surface requirements.

FAQs

What is the best glass for skylight? ›

Here's the thing: the absolute best kind of glass for a skylight is tempered-over-laminated. This hybrid approach combines the strengths of both tempered and laminated glass to give you the strongest, most resilient, best quality skylight you can imagine.

Do skylights have two layers? ›

For best performance, skylights should consist of two layers, with one of them consisting of tempered glass (for improved resistance to larger embers striking and breaking the glass). Likely exposure for a skylight would be from the impact of an ember or other object lofted during a wildfire.

What is glass skylight? ›

noun. an opening in a roof or ceiling, fitted with glass, for admitting daylight.

How thick should skylight glass be? ›

The thickness of glass installed for skylight purposes commonly ranges between 4-6mm with a high-quality polished edge finish. When determining standards for skylight glass installation, areas such as heat loss, safety and security, glazing types and framing systems must be considered.

How long do glass skylights last? ›

On average, a skylight will last between eight and 15 years. However, with advancements in technology, VELUX skylights can last up to 20 to 30 years! As we mentioned earlier, there are a lot of contributing factors when it comes to how long your skylight will last.

Which skylight is the best at resisting leakage? ›

Curb-mounted skylights are a superior choice to prevent leaks. They allow for more flexibility in size and can offer more glass area than a deck-mounted skylight placed in the same hole. Thus, they can be brighter, but are also more expensive. Curbs can be built on-site or can be provided by the skylight manufacturer.

Which is better flat or domed skylights? ›

A flat glass skylight has a longer life expectancy and requires less maintenance. An acrylic dome skylight weakens over time due to years of heat exposure and is more prone to clouding and cracking. Additionally, it does not have a hail or leak warranty.

Which type of skylight is most likely to be successful? ›

In terms of practicality and efficiency, a skylight mounted on a curb is generally considered to be more successful than a skylight that is directly mounted on the roof. Skylights on curbs are outstanding because they can be installed on any roof material or slope and provide excellent insulation.

How much is a glass skylight? ›

Cost by Size
Skylight SizeUnit Cost RangeAverage Cost
25”x57”$300–$800$550
33”x49”$300–$1,000$650

What's the difference between a skylight and a VELUX? ›

What is the difference between a skylight and Velux window? A skylight is a window installed on the roof of a building to allow natural light to enter. A Velux window is a window manufactured by the Velux brand – hence the name.

What should I look for in a good skylight? ›

The least expensive material is plastic; however, plastic skylights allow more UV rays in than others do. Glass skylights are more expensive but provide a better aesthetic. They're scratch-resistant and durable. You can also make your skylight more energy efficient by adding a solar-heat control glaze.

Do skylights require tempered glass? ›

Glass which is used for skylights must be Safety Glazing, means both tempered and laminated glass. Tempered glass is the most effect resistant, and laminated glass is manufactured with a thin layer of plastic.

Do skylights need to be tempered glass? ›

Choosing between a laminated vs tempered glass skylight often depends on the building codes in your areas. If the skylight is large or high enough, it may be required to be made with laminated glazing. However, if you have the option to select either type of glazing, the decision might be a tough one.

Is tempered glass good for skylight? ›

Glass skylights that are fitted with tempered glass are much safer, however, since rather than splintering, the glass breaks down into thousands of tiny little ice cube shaped pieces that are not sharp. As well as being safer, this also makes clearing up the debris much easier.
